Dancing Queen

Here are some visual solution ads I did for Just For Kix Dancewear. I worked with AD Pat Iten and Monica Valezsquez (NYC) and Chris Neil (MPLS) for the illustrations and design. Check 'em out. The goal was to capture the dancer in their most "electric" of movements.

I like the logo treatment, dude. I'd crop that and work from there. The copy and art direction kinda looks a little JCPenny'ish.

There's a really nice clean, vibrant look to the camapign that I enjoy. The layout accentuates an energy thats impossible not to make you think: "Oh those look f--ing cool."

I like them, but they don't blow me away either. Something makes me think there were cooler lines the client or the CD didn't buy? They don't have to be earth-shattering, (especially considering the visual is so demanding) but they could have brought me to the shoes in a (forgive me for saying this) "smarter" way.

I wonder too if there could be more focus on the shoes visually? Was there an even more imaginative place the art direction could go? Maybe I'm completley "Minneapolizing" the hell out of it and I apologize if I am.

Cool though. Thanks for sharing.

It's a dancewear company, not shoes. And yes the copy was essentially wittled down to a feeling. The client is doing backflips about the campaign, although I agree that the messaging is pretty straight up. Nonetheless I was happy to see start and finish a campaign that captures the movement of the dancers in their respective mediums...jazz, hip-hop, cheer, and ballet. Which was the original intent.
