rock music and a lesson in economics for $10

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Everyone knows that Radiohead is a mythological creature of wisdom and beauty that sometimes comes out and melts our brains.

But not everyone knows its members are masters of economics and that Radiohead will release its latest album themselves. Available as a download, starting October 10th and as a discset—that they'll send you. Subsequently, the band will influence the way consumers and record labels/corporations think about the industry.

If a band as huge as Radiohead no longer needs record labels. Why does anyone else? Tons of bands have been putting out their own music for decades. This should teach everyone that no matter how monstrous a band is, it can be self-sufficient.

Radiohead also wants you to decide how much their music is worth. They're letting the consumer decide the price.

If you're a good person, you'll pay them.

It will be interesting to see the outcome of this experiment. I'd love to know how many copies they sell versus their profit compared to their old deals.

By releasing it themselves, they've also stopped any leaking of the album—since they are handling it.

Fucking brilliant.

Its the democratization of music, and the beginning of the end for major record labels.

File-sharing is impossible to stop. "Nature will find a way."

Long live progressive thinking that rides the wave as oppossed to fighting it.
