Any major dude will tell you...

I've been a fan of Steely Dan for years, mostly because my uncles used to play them when I was a wee superbeast (lower case to emphasize tiny Brew). I remember the first time I ever REALLY listened to them. I was on the way to Lutsen to go skiing with my uncle Terry. It seemed like the only thing he had in his truck was Steely Dan tapes, and honestly they sounded a bit like adult contemporary smooth jazz at the time. Perhaps it was just the contact high.

Anyway, I've been coming in to work really early, and leaving really late every day since I started my new job. The one solace (besides working in a really cool, creative environment) has been headphones and Steely Dan's Pretzel Logic. It's an album that soothes while having some of the coolest studio guitar work ever. The best thing about Steely Dan's music is the lyrical content though. The story telling is pretty fantastic for its era (Logic was recorded in '73).

Any major Superbeast with half a heart will tell you, if you gave up on Steely D, the time is now to get learned.

When my dad toiled at finishing our basement between the years of 1983 and 1986 two things kept him going: Blatz Beer and Steely Dan. I still can't listen to it without hearing the knocking of loose 2X4's against exposed duct work.

Your dad smoked so much weed.

He grew, too. Named his plants after my mom.

My brother (who smoked so much weed) loves Steely Dan.

And like any good older brother he always told me that my music sucked. I remember the first time I heard Aja and I thought it was the worst music that I had ever heard and I laughed at him.

I love Steely Dan now.

I never really gave Steely Dan a chance. It was hard for me to get past always hearing them on KQ and the adult contemporary sound.

Yeah but they only play like 2 of their songs on KQ. they have like a bazillion albums.
