Brew's Views #2: Let's get together.

So I'm in the midst of trying to sell Harley an idea that involves soft-core pornography. They'll never buy it, but it has been a great ride concepting and filling the walls with half naked women for the last two days. I like where this is going, retrofitting my work day to include personal fantasy time. I've enjoyed working with my partner on the project. She's been more than willing to help further my cause of making ads worth masturbating to. Good kid.

I was talking to my students last night about the importance of finding a synergy with the people you're working with. I can usually tell by what I'm seeing on the wall if these guys have been working together or not. There's nothing that pisses me off more than writers that show up with headlines, and art directors that show up with visual solutions. I tell them to think of the idea and MAKE ADS, not words and pictures separately. Hopefully my rant will sink in, but I'm not holding my breath.

When I was in ad school I had one partner in particular that I worked with all the time. We would usually spend an entire day at the coffee shop working on stuff. Then we would hang out together, drink beers and get dinner, only to head back to the coffee shop to crank until the place shut down. It was awesome, and some of my best work came out of those sessions. We had a synergy.

That dude sells women's clothing for a living. He's hella talented, but I'm not sure if advertising is his game. That's besides the point.

You could just kick back and watch/read soft-core during class.
