Without Darkness There is No Light.

Minnesota isn't just about pull-tabs and pronto pups. Hell no.

This mural resides on the exterior of Creative Lighting in St. Paul, Minnesota. It was created as a collaboration project by the brilliant 6 Word Story Every Day duo, Anne Ulku (designer) and Van Horgen (writer).

The font mastery was provided by the legendary Chank, with help from many, like poster luminary/artist Adam Turman.

This behemoth is 60ft x 20ft.

In Anne's own words:

Years ago, Chank did a mural on the Creative Lighting building in St.Paul. They were looking to have it updated, as well as opening the other blank sides of their walls -one of which Adam Turman did as well. So Chank opened the opportunity to me to do the back side of the building.

The mural/message had to be about light (since it's on the building of a light store), and also had to use Chanks fonts (chank.com). I decided to collaborate with Van and make it one of the Six Word Stories. Playing on opposites of light & dark, Van wrote the story. I gridded out the wall, designed the story, & sketched it out on the wall brick by brick.

The whole process took probably a month total. Amazing to work on- definitely a great opportunity.

Here's another example of the awesomeness constantly brewing out of the arts epicenter known as the Twin Cities. I'm consistently inspired by the work created back on the frozen tundra by friends and peers. This is beautiful. Well done beasts.

It's the same building- that is Chank's older mural that he painted over while I was working on mine :)

I think Ching Chang Chong was referencing a different mural Anne. But they're all cool!
