Spirit Animal.

I camped on the coast of the Olympic Peninsula this weekend. As far as geography goes, the place is a virtual holy realm of superbeastness. The plan was to surf with orcas and eat fry bread with the locals while donning nothing but a loin cloth. Instead I tried keeping a fire going in soaking wet conditions. You have to suffer a bit in a place like the peninsula. The beauty of the landscape and ocean doesn't come without some struggle and strife.

On Sunday we packed up our stuff and drove into the Hoh Rainforest, home of the infamous Banana Slug. I never actually saw the slug, but I could feel his presence. I nabbed this video off youtube to show the beast in action.

The Hoh gets approximately 142 inches of rain a year. It makes Seattle seem like the Sahara desert in comparison. It's the home to Bobcats, Cougars, Tree Frogs, Spotted owls, Elf Wizards, and tons of gnomes. The lush, green Sitka Spruce and the bazillion different varieties of moss and fungus are like shag carpeting to those swingin' dick gnomes.

The Hoh is also the source for many a stupid pun stated by the 12 year old version of me. "Just pulled out of the Hoh." Zing!
