The Beach Boys. Never Learn Not to Love. 1968.
Here's the Beach Boys performing a song written by Charles Manson. Charlie's version was originally entitled "Cease to Exist."
The tune is noteworthy because of Manson's relationship with Dennis Wilson before the Tate/Labianca murders. The Beach Boys never officially credited Manson with the song, although it is said that Manson gave up the rights as payment for trashing Dennis Wilson's house. Definitely not a highlight in the Beach Boys canon.
The song was originally released as the B-side to the 45 "Bluebirds Over The Mountain" on Capitol records in November 1968.
The guilt over the Manson family murders is purportedly what caused Dennis Wilson to spiral into a deep and unproductive depression until his death. On December 28, 1983, shortly after his 39th birthday, Wilson drowned at Marina Del Rey, Los Angeles after drinking all day and diving in the afternoon to recover items he had thrown overboard at the marina from his yacht three years prior.
Happy Valentine's Day!
