Last night the lady and I took a break from the Bourne trilogy (which is surprisingly awesome in just about every regard) and set aside a certain foreign film of great repute (The Lives of Others) and instead popped disc 1 of the second season of Laguna Beach into the ol' DVD. If drama is your thing--and I'm talking the genuine article, folks--Laguna Beach delivers it in spades. It's petty, childish, rude, evil, occasionally tender, bitter, angry, and just basically full of life. It was actually refreshing to watch people who haven't been beat down by jobs, electricity bills, insurance payments, bland office lunches, and cynicism act out their whims and fancies for the camera, even if the things coming out of their mouths wouldn't pass muster in a 3rd grade midwestern classroom. Oh, and did I mention how hot the ladies are? Say what you will, but goddamnit, I think everyone could afford to let their hipster guard down for a night to sample the offerings deemed intolerable by the uber hip. In fact, it probably helps cultivate a greater sense of appreciation for higher forms of television and cinema. Anyway, I can't wait for disc 2 to arrive.

Shouldn't you be watching baseball?
You're suspended Burk.
Man, you guys are really going pretty easy on me. I was hoping for more venom than that. Who wants to have an LG party with me?
I'm not nearly high enough to deal with you today.
God, I'd LOVE to watch Laguna high. Great idea, Falch. Great idea!
Burk, you're the only hipster I know.
