Crawdads.

While visiting Portland a few weeks back, I stumbled across an afternoon house party with my old pal MIke Salmon. The party was a Crawdad boil. There was a huge kiddie pool in the back filled with the little buggers, much to the horror of the kids that were there. They also had a keg of Laurel Brewing IPA. A smooth drinker on a nice summer day.

It seems like every time I visit Portland, something like this is happening. Despite the hilarious Portlandia references, the city has an awesome sense of community and a strong DIY culture. Not to mention great record stores.

Here's MIke and his little boy Nico. A couple of real gingers. When I pulled up at their house, they were hula-hooping together in the street. Awesome.
