Special effects icon Carlo Rambaldi has passed away. He was responsible for creating the monster magic behind E.T., Alien, and King Kong to name a few. Basically all of my childhood nightmares and dreams. R.I.P. Superbeast.

Yeah, the guy was a genius. The Alien creature in particular was groundbreaking. The telescoping drooling metallic mouth design was copied over and over and over by every subsequent monster flick for 2-3 decades after the initial Alien release.
