R.I.P. Isaac Hayes
Superbeast status isn't just handed out willy nilly to everyone. No, it takes a life's work of incredible, jaw dropping awesomeness to be crowned a lifetime member of the Superbeast High Priest of Beast Buddy Association. What kind of awesomeness must be attained? Well, the kind that comes with being an in-house songwriter and producer for Stax records. The kind of street cred you get for penning the theme song to the most baddass movie ever, Shaft. The kind of recognition that comes along with naming yourself Black Moses. Damn straight.
Isaac Hayes has won an Academy Award, two Grammy Awards, and he was crowned the honorary king of Ghana. He wrote Soul Man and Hold on, I'm Comin'. He reinterpreted the Bacharach classic Walk on By, and he wrote a song called Hyperbolicsyllabicsesquedalymistic. He was the most memorable character on South Park, before bowing out for conflicting beliefs. He was a man of his word, and he wore bling long before Mr. T did.
He also fathered 12 tiny beasts.
Ladies and gentleman, Superbeast is proud to report that Isaac Hayes has indeed reached High Priest of Beast status. R.I.P. Black Moses, may your shiny bald head and smooth baritone bless us all again.
